Clashes erupted on Tuesday between police and protesters outside the Israeli embassy in Mexico City during a demonstration against Israel’s military actions in Rafah, a city in southern Gaza. The protest, dubbed “Urgent Action for Rafah,” attracted around 200 participants, according to AFP journalists present at the scene.
The demonstration took place in the Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood, where some protesters, their faces covered, hurled stones at riot police blocking their path to the diplomatic complex. Approximately 30 protesters attempted to break through barriers to reach the Israeli mission.
In response, police officers deployed tear gas and returned the stones thrown by the protesters. The demonstration was sparked by an Israeli airstrike that, according to Palestinian officials, ignited a fire in a displacement camp near Rafah, resulting in the deaths of 45 people.
The incident underscores the heightened tensions and global reactions to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, drawing international attention and sparking protests far from the conflict zone.
