The racist murders in Jacksonville show just how deeply American civil society is divided

The racist murders of Angela Michelle Carr, Jerrald Gallion and Anolt Joseph Laguerre Jr at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida, by a man who “hated Black people” took place on August 27th are another reminder that the American community is falling apart more rapidly than anyone could have predicted.

If this event surprised you, you’re not paying attention. We have hateful rhetoric coming out of the mouths of politicians at the highest levels every single day and no one seems to address this issue or even try to condone it. All around it’s hate against Black, White, Hispanics, Asians — every single group is facing some form of racism in one way or another.

The perpetuating racism and hatred that has been intensifying in the past years is worrisome to say the least and needs a global approach to be tackled effectively. The fact that racial shooting had become the new norm and are not causing public outrage just shows how deep the division has become. Violence, whether racial or not, is not an emotion that should be ignored so blatantly but instead be feared by those in power as it comes more difficult to contain.
