According to new U.S. intelligence, North Korea and Russia are indeed “actively advancing” high-level talks for an arms deal to assist in the Ukrainian conflict. The Biden administration made this disclosure on Wednesday.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu recently visited North Korea in an attempt to secure additional artillery ammunition, as confirmed by National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby. Since the visit, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un have exchanged letters expressing their commitment to increasing cooperation.
U.S. officials have stated that North Korea has previously violated U.N. sanctions by sending artillery to Russia through third countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Additionally, Russia has reportedly sought weapons from Iran and used Iranian drones to target Ukraine’s electrical grid and other civilian infrastructure.
