North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is set to visit Russia in the upcoming days, following an invitation extended by President Vladimir Putin, as announced by the Kremlin on Monday.
Earlier, South Korean media, citing anonymous government sources, reported that Kim seemed to have departed on a special train bound for Russia, where he is expected to hold a summit with Putin.
The United States has expressed concerns regarding the possibility of North Korea supplying weapons to Russia.
North Korea stands as one of the few nations openly supporting Russia in the Ukrainian conflict. Putin reaffirmed his commitment last week to “enhance bilateral relations in every aspect through coordinated efforts.”
Kim’s last foreign trip in 2019 also took him to Vladivostok for his inaugural summit with Putin, following the breakdown of North Korea’s nuclear disarmament negotiations with former U.S. President Donald Trump.
