A Peruvian man has been taken into custody for allegedly instigating a wave of over 150 bomb threats directed at schools across the United States. This sequence of threats has caused widespread concern, prompting authorities to take swift action in pursuit of the individual responsible for the distressing incidents.

As per an unsealed complaint in New York on Thursday, Santos faces multiple federal charges, including transmitting interstate threats and disseminating false information and hoaxes. Additionally, Santos is accused of attempting to procure and create child abuse imagery.

Authorities report that Santos dispatched numerous threats between September 15 and September 21 to various locations across states, including New York, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Connecticut.

One threat from Santos to a Pennsylvania school district read, “I placed multiple bombs in all of the schools from your School Districts. The bombs will blow up in a few hours. I’ll gladly smile when your families are crying because of your deaths.”

In Pennsylvania, Santos is alleged to have caused the evacuation of at least 1,100 schoolchildren across 20 school districts due to these purported threats.

Santos also directed his attention to minors, from whom he attempted to solicit explicit images. Under the alias “Lucas,” Santos portrayed himself as a 15-year-old male and persistently requested nude images from minors. In instances where the minors declined or severed contact, Santos subsequently issued bomb threats to their respective schools.
