Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, disclosed on Thursday that the embassy has encountered a series of threats in connection with the ongoing Russian presidential election.
Antonov conveyed to state television that the embassy has been inundated with numerous provocative calls and threats. He expressed concerns over potential anti-Russian actions surrounding Russian diplomatic missions, including attempts to gain unauthorized entry. Antonov emphasized that while such efforts may not disrupt the election process, they could create challenges and disrupt the embassy’s operations.
The Russian presidential election spans three days, commencing on Friday, with Vladimir Putin widely expected to secure victory against three challengers who have refrained from criticizing him.
In a separate statement earlier on Thursday, Russian Digital Development Minister Maksut Shadayev informed the Tass news agency of anticipated large-scale hacker attacks targeting the voting system infrastructure during the election period.
