In a Monday call between President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the United States affirmed its commitment to provide prompt military assistance to support Kyiv in its ongoing conflict.
Last week, the US House of Representatives approved a significant foreign aid package, including $61 billion designated for war-torn Ukraine. The Senate is expected to follow suit shortly.
President Biden emphasized America’s enduring support for Ukraine in its defense against Russia, promising to swiftly deliver substantial new security assistance packages to address urgent battlefield and air defense needs once the Senate passes the aid package and he signs it into law.
Additionally, Biden highlighted that US economic assistance aims to bolster financial stability, facilitate critical infrastructure recovery following Russian strikes, and aid reform efforts as Ukraine progresses towards Euro-Atlantic integration.
Expressing gratitude for Biden’s steadfast backing, Zelenskyy affirmed that the US President assured him of immediate action upon Senate approval.
Zelenskyy conveyed Biden’s commitment to providing potent weaponry and hardware through the impending military aid package, aimed at fortifying Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, as well as enhancing long-range and artillery capabilities.
During their discussion, the leaders also addressed recent strikes including the destruction of a major television tower in Kharkiv by Moscow’s forces shortly before their conversation.
