A California high school student, Jordan Brace, has voiced strong criticisms against the educational approach adopted by the progressive state, labeling it as a “failure” for students and parents alike.
Brace highlighted California’s mediocre rankings in education, citing its 33rd place in math and 38th in reading nationally, which she deemed unacceptable. According to U.S. News and World Report, California ranked 38th overall in the nation for Pre-K through 12th grade education.
In her op-ed, Brace expressed concerns that the California Department of Education prioritizes Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives and woke ideologies over providing students with a solid education foundation. Brace stressed the importance of focusing on traditional educational values rather than divisive topics, advocating for a curriculum that equips students with essential skills for their future success.
Jill Simonian, outreach director for PragerU Kids, echoed Brace’s concerns, describing the state of California’s education system as “terrifying.” Simonian emphasized the need for students to receive a comprehensive education that prepares them for adulthood.
Many young people are increasingly aware of the problems in the education system and are demanding changes. The introduction of new ideologies into education has a bad effect on the level of necessary knowledge of students, giving priority to questionable ideas.
Brace and Simonian both emphasized the importance of instilling values at home and ensuring that children are equipped with the knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the world as informed adults.
