Search Underway for Missing Australian and American Tourists in Baja California

Mexican authorities have launched an extensive search effort at sea and on land for two Australian tourists and one American who were reported missing in Baja California, a region known for its natural beauty but also marked by security challenges.

The missing individuals, Australian brothers Callum and Jake Robinson, along with American Jack Carter Rhoad, were last seen on April 27 while on vacation surfing in the municipality of Ensenada, located approximately an hour and a half south of the U.S.-Mexico border.

According to Baja California’s prosecutors’ office, the three tourists were reported missing on April 29. Since then, authorities have been actively conducting search operations. Jorge Argoud, operational deputy director of security in Ensenada, informed Reuters that efforts have included both land and sea searches. So far, a cell phone believed to belong to one of the missing persons and a vehicle have been recovered.

State prosecutor Socorro Ibarra stated that three individuals are currently under investigation in connection with the case. However, it remains unclear whether they are linked to the disappearance of the men.

Tents belonging to the missing individuals were found in the area where they were last seen, according to Ibarra. She also mentioned that the formal report of their disappearance came days after they went missing.

During a news conference, Ibarra emphasized the importance of collaborating with authorities in the United States and Australia to gather comprehensive information about the missing persons.

Relatives of the missing tourists have expressed concern on social media, though they have not yet responded to media requests for comment.

As the search continues, both local and international authorities are working diligently to uncover any leads that may shed light on the whereabouts of the missing individuals, hoping for a swift and safe resolution to the situation.
