Las Vegas Man Charged with Murder After Fatal Confrontation with Neighbor

A Las Vegas resident, Eddi Moreno Jr., faces an open murder charge with a deadly weapon following the fatal shooting of his neighbor, Joe Moreno, 47. The incident occurred Monday evening while Eddi’s wife was on a 911 call.

The confrontation began when Eddi Moreno Jr., his wife, and their family returned home from their daughter’s soccer game. According to a police report obtained by Fox News Digital, they encountered Joe Moreno near their property. Joe’s girlfriend had reportedly locked him out of their house following an argument.

Eddi’s wife told police that her husband retrieved a gun from a backpack, exited their vehicle, and confronted Joe, accusing him of breaking into their house. During this confrontation, Joe allegedly exposed himself and made lewd gestures towards Eddi, according to the police report. Eddi’s wife informed the 911 dispatcher that Joe had repeatedly exposed himself in front of their children.

As described in the 911 call audio obtained by 8 News Now, she said, “He’s yelling at us while we pulled into the driveway. We have all our kids in the car,” before detailing Joe’s obscene gestures. The call also captured the sound of multiple gunshots.

“My husband shot him,” she told the dispatcher. “You better come quick.”

Eddi told police that Joe had been looking over their wall into their backyard and had made threats towards him. Eddi claimed he warned Joe he would shoot if Joe approached him. According to Eddi, Joe advanced towards him while reaching into his pants, prompting Eddi to shoot.

A neighbor’s doorbell camera captured part of the incident, with Eddi heard shouting, “I am going to murder you, come right here!” as noted in the police report. After the shooting, Eddi was recorded saying, “That’s what he gets. He’s not going to do that in front of my kids. Are you crazy?”

The police report indicates that Eddi later told officers he did not recall seeing Joe’s genitals prior to the shooting but believed Joe’s genitals were exposed as he lay on the ground afterwards.

First responders found Joe bleeding in his driveway, and he later died from multiple gunshot wounds at a local hospital. The Clark County Coroner’s office ruled his death a homicide. Investigators recovered five cartridge casings at the scene and confirmed that Joe was unarmed.

Eddi Moreno Jr. appeared before a judge on Thursday, where his bail was set at $100,000. The judge instructed him not to interact with Joe’s girlfriend and prohibited him from possessing firearms. Eddi acknowledged the judge’s orders, responding, “Yes, ma’am,” but remained otherwise silent during the hearing. According to inmate records, Eddi is currently out on bail, and his next court date is scheduled for August 13.
