Hunter Biden’s legal troubles continue as he prepares to face trial on federal tax charges in California this September. This follows his recent conviction on federal gun charges in Delaware, where he was found guilty on all counts brought by Special Counsel David Weiss. The charges included making false statements in the purchase of a firearm, providing false information to a licensed firearm dealer, and possessing a firearm while being an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.
Despite President Biden’s firm stance against pardoning his son, Hunter Biden’s legal battles are far from over. In the Delaware case, Hunter Biden faces up to 25 years in prison, with each count carrying a potential maximum fine of $250,000 and three years of supervised release. A sentencing date for these charges has not yet been set.
Hunter Biden’s upcoming trial in California also originates from Weiss’ extensive investigation. He is charged with three felonies and six misdemeanors related to $1.4 million in unpaid taxes, which have since been settled. Weiss alleges that Hunter Biden engaged in a “four-year scheme” to evade federal income taxes from January 2017 to October 2020 while filing false tax reports.
Initially scheduled to begin on June 20, the trial was postponed after Hunter Biden’s request for a delay was granted by United States District Court Judge Mark Scarsi. Jury selection for the tax trial is now slated to start on September 5.
