GOP Lawmakers with Military Background Examine Trump Shooting Site

Republican Representatives Cory Mills and Eli Crane visited the site in Butler, Pennsylvania, where former President Donald Trump was targeted in an attempted assassination. The visit, which took place on Thursday, included a review of the location from which Thomas Matthew Crooks fired at Trump during a rally on July 13.

Mills, an Army combat veteran and tactical security specialist, and Crane, a Navy SEAL sniper veteran, examined the rooftop from which Crooks shot at Trump, wounding him in the right ear. The shooting also resulted in the death of firefighter Corey Comperatore and injuries to two other bystanders.

The lawmakers’ visit was part of a broader investigation into the incident and included filming for an upcoming episode of “The Benny Show” with conservative commentator Benjamin “Benny” Johnson. Johnson expressed gratitude on social media for the representatives’ involvement, emphasizing their commitment to uncovering the details of the shooting.

Crane, who has visited the site twice, highlighted concerns about the security measures in place during the rally. He posted a video showing the ease with which one could access the rooftop, questioning the effectiveness of the security measures at the event.

The visit by Mills and Crane followed a previous inspection by a bipartisan group of 11 lawmakers. The event has drawn scrutiny to the security arrangements, leading to calls for accountability. The former director of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, faced significant criticism and ultimately resigned shortly after her remarks before Congress regarding the incident.

The examination of the shooting site by Mills and Crane is part of ongoing efforts by some lawmakers to assess the security failures and procedural shortcomings associated with the assassination attempt on Trump.
