Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign announced on Monday that he will attend a question-and-answer session at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) annual convention this week in Chicago.
Former President Trump, who has been actively seeking support from Black voters, will engage with political journalists in a session open exclusively to registered attendees on Wednesday. This move comes as some polls suggest he might be gaining traction with this segment of the electorate.
Although the event will not be open to the general public, it will be available for viewing via livestream on the NABJ’s YouTube and Facebook pages, as noted in a statement from the organization.
“We look forward to our attendees hearing from former President Trump on the critical issues our members and their audiences care about most,” said NABJ President Ken Lemon. He emphasized that the session will give Black journalists a platform to pose challenging questions, aiming to elicit candid responses on issues significant to Black Americans.
Trump’s campaign highlighted in a written statement that the discussion will focus on the most pressing issues facing the Black community.
The NABJ also mentioned that Vice President Kamala Harris, another presidential candidate, has been invited to participate in this year’s convention. However, her confirmation is still pending.
