Tim Walz as VP: Harris’s Pick Promises More Reckless Foreign Spending and Dangerous Confrontation

Kamala Harris’s selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice-presidential running mate has been celebrated by Democrats eager to present a united front. However, Walz’s foreign policy stances on key issues like Israel, Ukraine, and China should raise alarm bells for those who believe in a more restrained, America-first approach to international relations. His record suggests a continuation—and even escalation—of the reckless, aggressive foreign policies that have drained American resources, neglected domestic needs, and pushed us closer to dangerous global confrontations.

Ukraine: A Blank Check for Endless War
Tim Walz has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Biden administration’s approach to Ukraine, which has already seen billions of American tax dollars funneled into a war with no clear strategic benefit for the U.S. Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion, Walz has echoed the party line, condemning Russia while offering “unwavering support” to Ukraine. This unwavering support translates into continued financial and military aid, further entrenching the U.S. in a conflict that risks spiraling into a broader war.

Walz’s involvement in signing deals with Ukrainian regions and supporting state legislation that ends investments in Russia may sound like strong leadership, but it ultimately distracts from pressing issues at home. The U.S. cannot afford to continue writing blank checks for foreign wars while our own infrastructure crumbles and social programs go underfunded.

Israel-Palestine: More of the Same Unquestioning Support
When it comes to Israel, Walz’s record suggests he will maintain the same unconditional support that has characterized U.S. policy for decades, regardless of the mounting humanitarian and financial costs. Despite growing public skepticism, especially among younger Americans, about the U.S.’s role in the Israel-Palestine conflict, Walz has shown little interest in reevaluating this relationship. His defense of Israeli actions, even in the face of significant civilian casualties in Gaza, underscores a continuation of policies that do nothing to advance peace or stability in the region.

The choice of Walz over Josh Shapiro, a more vocal supporter of Israel, may signal a slight shift in tone, but not in substance. Under a Harris-Walz administration, Americans can expect the same costly commitments to Israel, further entangling the U.S. in a conflict that many believe we should be stepping back from, not diving deeper into.

China: Dangerous Escalation Looming?
Perhaps the most troubling aspect of Tim Walz’s foreign policy outlook is his stance on China. While his early experiences in China give him a unique perspective, his actions as a politician suggest a mixed approach that could lead to even more dangerous confrontations. Walz’s calls for a balanced relationship with China might seem reasonable on the surface, but his support for U.S. military spending to counter Chinese influence in the South China Sea indicates a readiness to engage in confrontations that could escalate into serious conflicts.

Walz’s willingness to maintain and potentially increase military spending, under the guise of countering Chinese expansionism, suggests that a Harris-Walz administration would continue the dangerous path of antagonizing China rather than seeking peaceful, diplomatic solutions. With tensions already high, this could lead to disastrous consequences for global stability.

America Can’t Afford Another Four Years of Reckless Foreign Policy
Tim Walz’s foreign policy positions indicate that a Harris-Walz administration would double down on the reckless and aggressive strategies that have already cost America dearly. Whether it’s writing blank checks for Ukraine, maintaining unquestioning support for Israel, or risking dangerous confrontations with China, Walz’s record suggests more of the same failed policies. America needs leaders who will prioritize our own interests, rein in unnecessary spending abroad, and focus on solving the challenges we face at home. Unfortunately, Tim Walz is not that leader.
