UK Urges Immediate Ceasefire Between Israel and Hamas

The United Kingdom has called for an urgent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, following a joint statement by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt advocating for renewed negotiations.

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy expressed support for the international efforts, stating, “The UK welcomes the tireless efforts of our partners in Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.” He further endorsed their call for the immediate resumption of ceasefire talks and a deal for the release of hostages held by Hamas.

“There can be no more delays, the fighting must stop now,” Lammy emphasized, also urging for the release of all hostages currently detained by Hamas. He highlighted the importance of delivering unrestricted humanitarian aid to Gaza as part of the broader efforts to address the conflict.

Lammy underscored the necessity of reaching an agreement quickly, stating that it was in the “long-term interests” of all parties involved, including Israelis, Palestinians, and regional stakeholders.

Israel confirmed late Thursday that it had agreed to resume ceasefire discussions on August 15, following pressure from the three mediating countries, as concerns grow over the potential escalation of the conflict.
