Father Sentenced to 45 Years for Murder of 5-Year-Old Daughter, Harmony Montgomery

Adam Montgomery, the New Hampshire father found guilty of fatally beating his 5-year-old daughter, Harmony, and concealing her death for over two years, received his sentencing on Thursday.

The judge handed down a sentence of 45 years in prison for the charge of second-degree murder.

Addressing Montgomery during the sentencing, Judge Amy Messer condemned his actions, stating, “You took a human life in the most callous and heartless manner. You deprived a 5-year-old girl, your own daughter, of the life she deserved. You robbed your sons of a sister and took a daughter from her mother.”

In addition to the sentence for second-degree murder, Montgomery was also given additional prison time: 4 to 8 years for assault, 3.5 to 7 years for witness tampering, and 3.5 to 7 years for falsifying evidence. He received a 12-month suspended sentence for abuse of a corpse. The judge ruled that these sentences would be served consecutively, amounting to a minimum of 56 years behind bars.

Considering the severity of Montgomery’s crimes and his violent criminal history, Judge Messer emphasized the necessity of keeping him off the streets.

Montgomery had been in custody since the beginning of 2021, following the report of Harmony’s disappearance by his estranged ex-wife. It was revealed that Harmony had been missing since 2019, during a period when the family was homeless and living in their car.

Prosecutors detailed the events leading to Harmony’s death, stating that on December 7, 2019, Montgomery allegedly beat Harmony to death after she had soiled herself in her sleep. He then concealed her body in a duffle bag, transferring it multiple times before ultimately disposing of her remains outside Boston.

As part of a plea deal, Kayla Montgomery, Harmony’s stepmother, provided testimony incriminating Adam Montgomery. She revealed that he had kept Harmony’s body for three months, moving it to different locations before allegedly disposing of it near Boston. Despite offers to reduce his sentence, Adam Montgomery remained silent regarding the whereabouts of Harmony’s body.

Authorities continue to search for Harmony’s remains, urging anyone with information to contact the dedicated tip line at 603-203-6060.
