Expert Warns Biden’s Policies Drive China and Russia Closer, Causing Concerns

A prominent expert has raised alarms over President Biden’s foreign policy approach, asserting that it has inadvertently led to a closer strategic partnership between China and Russia. As Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin convened in Beijing to bolster bilateral ties, concerns mount over the implications of this burgeoning relationship.

Michael Pillsbury, a senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation, characterized the evolving relationship between the two nuclear powers as “shocking,” suggesting that such a partnership would not have materialized under the Trump administration. Pillsbury emphasized that Biden’s failure to replicate Trump’s strategy, particularly in dealing with China, has resulted in what he describes as “a blunder of the highest order.”

Pillsbury’s critique coincides with Putin’s state visit to China, during which both leaders expressed a desire to end the conflict in Ukraine. The timing of their meeting underscores the growing alignment of interests between Moscow and Beijing.

Highlighting the economic dimension of U.S.-China tensions, Biden recently announced tariffs on Chinese imports worth $18 billion, prompting China to retaliate with “resolute measures.” The tit-for-tat trade actions further exacerbate the already strained relations between the two global powers.

Former Trump national security aide John Ullyot interpreted the Putin-Xi summit as a deliberate display of strength against the United States amid escalating tensions with the West.

The convergence of interests between China and Russia, coupled with Biden’s tariff announcement, underscores the complexities and challenges facing U.S. foreign policy in managing relations with major global players.
