Authorities in Nairobi have recovered the bodies of eight women from a dumpsite in a slum area, Kenya’s acting police chief announced on Sunday. The grim discovery has prompted a major investigation.
Douglas Kanja, the acting police chief, reported that the bodies were found in various stages of decomposition and had been severely dismembered. The remains were found inside sacks, with six corpses discovered on Friday and parts of two more bodies located on Saturday.
“We are committed to conducting transparent, thorough, and swift investigations,” Kanja stated at a press conference. He also urged the public to cooperate with the authorities to help bring those responsible for these heinous acts to justice.
Kanja’s tenure as acting police chief began only this week, following the resignation of former national police chief Japhet Koome. Koome stepped down amid public outrage over the deaths of several protesters during anti-government demonstrations last month.
The investigation into the discovery of these bodies is ongoing, with Kanja emphasizing the police department’s dedication to resolving the case and ensuring public safety.
