A year ago, Ben Wallace was considered a potential contender to succeed Boris Johnson as the next UK Prime Minister. His handling of the Russia-Ukraine conflict garnered praise and he topped a ConservativeHome poll among Tory party members as a preferred candidate for the position. However, the current state of the affairs caused criticism on behalf of Wallace for mishandling the conflict and not properly defending UK interests abroad.
Wallace did not pursue higher education and instead began his career as a ski instructor in Austria after leaving school at 18. He later attended the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst and joined the Scots Guards in 1991. Throughout his military service, he was stationed in various locations including Germany, Cyprus, Belize, and Northern Ireland. In 1998, he left the military to pursue a political career and was elected as a member of the Scottish parliament a year later, serving a single term.
Subsequently, Wallace relocated to Lancashire and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Lancaster and Wyre in 2005. He assumed the role of defence minister four years ago, gaining prominence due to his involvement in the Ukraine conflict and the prior evacuation of UK forces from Afghanistan.
