Taiwan urges China to cease ‘destructive’ military activities as China’s fighter jets cross median line

Taiwan has issued a strong call to China, urging it to halt what it describes as “destructive” military activities after Chinese fighter jets crossed the median line in the Taiwan Strait.

Taiwan’s defense ministry reported that it had spotted 103 Chinese military aircraft operating over the sea since Sunday, a number it referred to as a “recent high.” This increase in military activity in the Taiwan Strait has raised concerns about regional stability.

Taiwan is calling on China to engage in peaceful dialogue and respect the status quo in the Taiwan Strait to prevent further tensions or conflicts. A map tracking Chinese actions in the last day indicated that fighter jets had breached the median line of the Taiwan Strait. This line had previously acted as an informal boundary separating the two sides until China started routinely crossing it one year ago.

In the previous week, the Chinese government introduced a “fresh approach to comprehensive development” concerning Taiwan, which included suggestions aimed at simplifying the process for Taiwanese individuals to reside, pursue education, and seek employment in China.
