Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi delivered a comprehensive speech at the UN General Assembly, where he accused the United States of exacerbating the conflict in Ukraine, leading to a strong response from Israel’s representative to the UN.
In his address, President Raisi voiced his concerns about the situation in Ukraine and alleged that the United States was playing a destabilizing role in the ongoing crisis. He argued that American involvement was contributing to the escalation of violence in the region.
President Raisi asserted that any Iranian-made drones striking Ukrainian cities had been sold before the war’s commencement and expressed his support for a peaceful resolution in Ukraine. During his speech, President adopted a triumphant tone, claiming that he had successfully thwarted US intelligence efforts to undermine his regime. He further declared that the future belonged to countries within his sphere of influence and proclaimed the end of Western dominance.
“The world is transitioning into a novel international order and the project to Americanise the world has failed,” he said, adding that the west was “facing a crisis of identity and functionality and sees the world as a forest and itself as a beautiful garden.”
Israel’s UN representative expressed immediate protest at President Raisi’s remarks and, along with other members of the Israeli delegation, walked out of the assembly hall in response.
The accusation by Iran’s president has added a new dimension to the ongoing discussions at the UN General Assembly and highlights the complexities of the international response to the Ukraine conflict.
