In response to growing concerns about migration, Poland is considering the possibility of implementing border checks with its neighbor, Germany, as a precautionary measure.
Additionally, on Tuesday, Poland initiated inspections of certain vehicles crossing the Slovak border, where border authorities suspect the possible transportation of illegal migrants, according to Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski.
Slovakia has been grappling with a sharp rise in the number of illegal migrants. The figures show a nine-fold increase in the number of detained illegal migrants in Slovakia compared to the previous year, with over 27,000 detentions reported by the country’s interior ministry this year.
Concurrently, Germany announced on Tuesday evening its intention to strengthen border controls with both Poland and the Czech Republic to combat human trafficking.
“We have concerns that there may be an influx from Italy at any moment,” expressed Polish government spokesperson Piotr Muller in an interview with the private broadcaster Polsat News, referring to the issue of illegal migrants.
The potential introduction of border controls underscores the challenges and complexities that countries face when dealing with migration issues in Europe.
